Welcome to Huron Sports Academy!
We are a public charter school for competitive sports and academics for K-6 students in Huron, OH and surrounding districts. Our mission is to promote the academic and physical development of our students through teamwork, sportsmanship, and athletic competition. By developing these skills, student-athletes will become confident and capable contributing members of our community.
• Academics – we teach an Ohio Standards-based curriculum and individualize instruction to each student by assessing students on a bi-weekly schedule to know if a student is working ahead, falling behind, or right on track. We teach our core subjects of English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies & Science every day.
• Athletics – students participate in our daily athletics program which includes a wide variety of team sports as well as physical conditioning and mindfulness practice.
• Life Skills – our well-rounded education incorporates real-world learning so that students are confident and primed for success.
We offer free nutritious breakfast & lunch. We look forward to welcoming your student to Huron Sports Academy. Go Firebirds!
Brice Wilson, Principal
With a unique blend of experience in both education and athletics, Brice Wilson is set to lead our school community as the new principal of Huron Sports Academy.
Mr. Wilson’s journey in education is both deep and varied. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Oregon before completing his master’s in Business Management and Leadership at Western Governors University. He holds a K–12 Professional Teaching License in Physical Education. Before joining Huron Sports Academy, Mr. Wilson spent 15 years in higher education at Oberlin College, where he managed student recreation programs and the campus bowling lanes. This experience solidified his love for working with young people. Inspired to become a teacher, he earned his teaching license and helped establish the Sheffield Sports Academy in 2021. Throughout his career, he has coached students from kindergarten through college, focusing on sports skill development and social-emotional learning.
Mr. Wilson is passionate about the unique sports academy model created by ACCEL. His vision for Huron Sports Academy is to create an environment where students excel academically while having ample time for athletic development. “We will efficiently cover the curriculum, achieve high test scores, and have time during the school day for sports practice, extended P.E., and specials like art and music,” he says. He believes that a positive school culture is built on strong relationships. “Positive social interactions between staff and students are the foundation for academic and athletic success,” he states. His goal is to foster a happy and hard-working student body and staff.
Outside of school, Mr. Wilson loves being active. He enjoys playing sports and cheering on his children. His daughter runs track and cross country at Lehigh University, and his son, who played soccer, track, and volleyball in high school, will soon attend Penn State University. He also finds relaxation in landscaping his yard and gardening. He also has an interesting background that includes living in Alaska for 15 years and working as a chef! The Huron Sports Academy community is thrilled to welcome Brice Wilson and his family.
